The International Conference on Controlled Atmosphere and Fumigation in Stored Product (CAF) is the most important academic international conference dealing with research and development of gaseous treatments in stored commodities. The first Conference was an international symposium on controlled atmosphere grain storage, held in Rome, Italy in 1980, and the second one, which included fumigation, was held in Perth, Western Australia in 1983. This second symposium was given the title "International Symposium on Controlled Atmospheres and Fumigation" (CAF). This was followed by Conferences in Singapore (1989), and Winnipeg Canada (1992). Since 1992 the Conferences have been held at 4 year intervals. After 28 years of scientific progress, the scale and worldwide impact of the conference has gradually extended, to become an international grand conference held every 4 years on controlled atmosphere and fumigation in stored products.
